Membership Eligibility

Members Credit Union, originally called Greenwich CT Teachers Federal Credit Union, was established in 1935 to serve the teachers and employees of Greenwich schools. In 2002, the name was changed to Members Credit Union and membership eligibility was broadened to include anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Fairfield County.

MCU is a not for profit financial co-operative. What does this mean for you?

  • We have a local membership. 85% of our members live, work, attend school or worship in Fairfield County. The other 15% either moved from the area or are family members of current members. Your money stays in your community to benefit you, your friends, family and neighbors.

  • We have a volunteer board of directors elected from the membership. They make decisions to benefit the membership based on their love of the credit union rather than to make a profit for stockholders.

  • Our staff interacts daily with members, not customers. We make every effort to bring you the best service possible. We exist to serve you and our daily goal is “making lives better”.

MCU offers accounts for all ages. Adults, children and young adults under age 18 can open a share savings account with no maintenance fee with a $5 minimum deposit. Your minimum deposit entitles you to use all of the services of MCU.

Once you become a member, always a member - even if you move - as long as you keep at least the minimum balance in your account.

Important Information About Procedures for Opening an Account

To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify and record information that identifies each person who establishes a relationship or opens an account.

What this means for you: When you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driver's license or other identifying documents, which includes photo identification.
